The Three Walks of Life – Part 2: The Walk of Light

Walking in the Light

Our relationship with ourselves.

The first walk, the Walk of Light develops when our hearts accept God’s Word as the truth, we allow our thoughts and actions to conform accordingly.  We have a responsibility to ourselves to avoid deception from any source, including ourselves. In order to walk in the light that God’s Word provides, we must first do the following:

  1. Accept the fact that our nature does not think or act like God and we need His help in order to learn how to walk like He walks. [Isaiah 55:8; Proverbs 14:12]
  2. Submit our hearts and minds to the fact that the Word of God is the final authority to everything in our lives.  [Psalms 86:11; John 3:19-20; James 1:23]
  3. For a better understanding, we must first accept that the Bible is God speaking to us.
Read our Bibles daily.  [Joshua 1:8]
  4. Pray daily. Prayer is walking with God. To walk with God is to have fellowship with Him. If we don’t know how to pray, the Bible gives us instruction on that as well.

We hear His voice in our spirit which is our hearts, not our souls which consist of the mind or intellect, will, and emotions. In other words, if our spirits are not made alive to hear Him, His voice can’t be heard. We first must tune in to the frequency of God. That frequency is found in His son, Jesus who taught on the difference between the soul and the spirit when He told His disciples, “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.” [Matt. 26:41] To those of the Jewish faith, consider what the prophet said in Jeremiah 17: 9:  “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?”  [AV] And the prophet Ezekiel foretold the Jewish people of his day: “I’m going to give you a new heart, and I’m going to give you a new spirit within all of your deepest parts. I’ll remove that rock-hard heart of yours and replace it with one that’s sensitive to me.” Ezekiel 36:26 (ISV) That is God speaking to all people.

These scriptures not only inform us that our own nature’s proclivity is toward self-deception, but warns us that it possesses an appetite for self-destruction.  It further warns us how to deal with that nature in what I call Instruction No. 1, which is found in Proverbs 4:23: Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life. [AV] And Instruction No. 2: Jesus further enlightens us in Matthew 6:21: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

The Bible tells us that our thoughts directly influence our behavior. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. Prov. 23:7 [KJV] and that we must renew our minds which comes with studying God’s word – the Bible. Now if you don’t believe that the Bible really is God’s Word or God’s handbook on the rules of the road of life, then do your own investigation. I can do it for you, but it would be best if you investigated the issue on your own. The Bible is God’s handbook of life in statutes, ordinances and cases which interpret those statutes and ordinances. To the atheist and agnostic, I would say to ask God if He really exists to meet you at every crossroad of the mind as you investigate the validity of the Bible. He will. His salvation plan is the most brilliant masterpiece of all time.

Do you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? We must first know Him as Lord and Savior before we can ever enjoy our relationship with Him as His friend. If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior and you would like to know Him, just say this prayer to Him:

Father in Heaven, I admit I am a sinner and I have not walked with you in my life. I acknowledge your son is Jesus Christ and he is the only mediator between us. Jesus, I am a sinner, I come to you for forgiveness of my sin and ask you to come into my heart and be the Lord of my Life. I will follow you at any and all costs. Help me hear and obey your voice at all times and walk close to you. Help me to stay sensitive to the leading of your precious Holy Spirit. In your name, Lord Jesus I ask. Amen.
