The Three Walks of Life – Part 1

THE THREE WALKS OF LIFE

One of the most important needs in the church today is for balanced preaching and teaching.  There is an abundance of teaching on prosperity, but a lack of teaching on spiritual maturity.  Jesus said in Luke 6:46-49 that “except a man build his house on solid ground, it will be built in vain.”  You can seek teaching on prosperity but if you lack in spiritual maturity you will lack wisdom on how to manage that prosperity.  When Jesus is the Lord of our life His first goal is for us to grow spiritually because when the storms of life rage we’ll be left standing when others are blown away. Real spiritual maturity is continual and a mature saint can stand alone with God, when required.

To first understand the house, we need to see the blueprint. That blueprint is simply that mankind is a tripartite being, meaning he has three parts.  He is created in the image of a triune God.  He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We are spirit, soul and body.

Correctly learning the Word of God is first a spiritual experience, not an intellectual experience. Your spirit is the core of your being.  The Bible teaches us [Isaiah 28:10]: “Line upon line; precept upon precept; rule upon rule; a little here, a little there.” The purpose of these blogs is to help the readers find a balanced perspective on the Word of God since the effects of the computer age facilitates less cognitive thinking, and attention to balanced teaching which leads to misunderstandings and misapplications of the Word.  These walks are foundational precepts that help us in our perception the Word of God. These walks are:

  1. The Walk of Light – our relationship with ourselves;
  2. The Walk of Faith – our relationship with God; and
  3. The Walk of Love – our relationship God and others.

Each walk is dependent on the others.  For example:

  • You can’t walk in the Light without walking in Love.  The Bible tells us in 1st John 4:18 that His perfect love casts out all fear.  Fear prevents us from Walking in the Light.
  • You can’t walk in Faith without Walking in the Light because you require light in order to see what to believe God for.  Faith is believing God’s Word enough to guide your steps.  Faith is a trust in Him that is a result of knowing Him.  You can’t know Him unless you know His Word.
  • You can’t Walk in Love without Walking in the Light.  If you see a child moving toward something dangerous, you’re first inclination is to guard that child from the danger.  When the child is defiantly misbehaving the result is chastisement.  That is a Biblical example of love.
  • You can’t walk in Faith without Walking in Love.  Galatians 5:6 tells us that “Faith works by love.” The analogy I like to use is that if faith were a car, it’s gasoline would be love.  You’ll go nowhere in God without walking in love that is in compliance with His standards, not ours.  These are principles of the Kingdom life and living and when the church finally recognizes that it is the love walk that has long been neglected in teaching, then she’ll awaken to revival.

So we have a decision to make: Light or dark; faith or fear; love or hate?  It may sound easy, but we must fight our human nature every day.  Human nature’s inclination chooses darkness, fear and hate.  This nature must be conquered by the renewal of our minds to choose to light, love and faith.  We can’t blame God when we suffer the consequences of our bad decisions.  The good news is that God will always turn the circumstances around in our favor if we just go to Him, confess our sins and submit our will to His.
