How to Avoid Deception – Part 6

Develop an active prayer life.

Avoiding deception is crucial to every believer because deception is real and everywhere.  Deceivers are everywhere and deceit is even in our carnal nature.  A prayer life is crucial if you want to avoid being deceived by your own nature and others.  Sometimes we deceive ourselves because lust or pride settles in our hearts and dominates our perception and choices without realization.  So we must have wisdom and discernment to see our way through.  We must have humility to be teachable and directed by the Holy Spirit whom the Lord sent and his ministry is to teach us and guide us.  But to be guided requires knowing the Word of God for ourselves and to know His Word we must also develop and maintain an active prayer life.  A prayer life is like walking the fields of life with His Rod and Staff – without it we can’t be guided.  We need guidance; it’s as simple as that.

But there are many different types of prayer and to develop a proper prayer life we need to study the subject of prayer and learn the different types of prayer.  There’s supplication, dedication, worship and several other kinds of prayer.  This blog is not intended to teach that subject.  That subject requires another blog.  But prayer certainly is a requirement to avoid deception.  It’s crucial to our walk with Christ.  Without prayer we become disconnected and that’s what so dangerous.  Without prayer we become apathetic to the voice of God and desensitize our hearts to Him.  With prayer we hear His voice clearly and there is no mistaking it.  Jesus said “My sheep know my voice and no other voice will they follow.”  How can we know when we’re deceiving ourselves except to be exposed by it in prayer.  When we come before God in prayer, we not only feel His presence but the Holy Spirit exposes us to our sin so that we can repent.  We instinctively know this fact.  When sin gets imbedded within us we avoid the confrontation and avoid prayer.  It’s talking to God.  Our carnal nature doesn’t want to know Him in any way so we must fight that reluctance and come before Him.  Remember, our walks of love, faith and light are indicative to whether we hinder our own prayers.

We must have a hunger for prayer so that we can go to Him and give our hearts voice before Him.  We must maintain a healthy prayer life so that we can worship Him in spirit and in truth as He requires.  Prayer is indeed talking to God but many think it’s just talking in our thoughts to Him, however, it certainly is NOT that.  Prayer has a formality to it. Remember, God is on a throne and He certainly deserves the ceremony and dedication of worship and presentation.  God is glorious and gracious and coming before His throne is an event in your life that should be presented in honor.  If you can learn to do this, you’re life will change for the better.  So the best thing to do is to search the scriptures on the subject of prayer and seek out good teachings on the subject.  Learn how to present yourself before the Almighty God in prayer.  Learn how to open and close a prayer.  This is such valuable information that will truly change your life.  Choose to make time for God in your life.

One thing that definitely changed my life in a big way was that I learned to not leave home each day without first spending time with the Lord in His word and in prayer.  Sometimes I don’t even ask for anything, I just praise and worship Him.  When someone enters into His presence they are never the same.

Friends, avoid deception at all costs.  Keep an active hunger for wisdom and discernment by studying your Bible and growing in His grace.  Keeping an active prayer life to keep out pride and lust and keep inside a humility that is acceptable to God.  Wisdom and humility will keep you from deception and keep you from judgment.
