Birthday Celebration!

This is a true story that gives testimony that with God there is no detail too small for Him to take notice.  When God reaches out to us, it’s so personal and detailed that it speaks to us individually.  When He reaches out and kisses us, the details are so personal that we KNOW it’s Him doing it.  That is what this story is about.

Back in 1994 I said a simple prayer in the sanctuary of my heart to the Lord.  I simply asked the Lord if He would let me know the date that I asked Jesus into my heart as a child. This date is commonly referred to as your Christian birthday.  I did not remember much of that day except that I was at a Billy Graham crusade and I was only 10 years old.  A few weeks later I got an invitation to a Christmas party.  At the party there was a raffle for two roundtrip airfare tickets to any city in the continental U.S.  I won that prize.  So I asked around to see if anyone wanted to go anywhere.  My friend and I decided we wanted to go to a writers’ conference in Chicago.  Upon our arrival at Wheaton College we passed The Billy Graham Museum.  I turned to my friend and said, “God has something here for me.”

After we attended a few of the classes and met a few people, I decided it was time to take the break and check out the museum.  Upon approaching the concierge’s desk I asked the young lady if the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association kept records of who accepted Christ through their association.  I told her that I was trying to find out the actual date of when I received Christ.  She said that the association did not keep records of individuals but that they did keep records of the crusades and she asked me what I remembered.  I told that I remembered saying to myself, while looking up at Billy Graham, “remember, you’re 10 years old and 10 feet from Billy Graham.”  The concierge then asked me, “what year were you born in?”  I said, “1960.”  She said, “there were no crusades in 1970 in Chicago.  What is your birthday?  I said” it’s in December.”  She said, “oh!  ok, well, you would have been 10 years old in December of 1970, then, right?”  I said, “yes, that’s right.”  She suddenly got tears in her eyes while holding her hand on a stack of flyers.  She said, “I thought I made a mistake when printing out these flyers earlier today but clearly I did not.”  She had printed out about 200 flyers for one of the Billy Graham Crusades and it happened to be the very crusade that I received Jesus Christ as my Savior, in 1971 in Chicago!

And that wasn’t all.  Not only was the flyer she printed out on the very crusade, but as I looked at the date on the crusade flyer and the current date of the time, more memories flooded my mind about that very date that revealed to me more details that showed me that I found out my Christian birthday ON my Christian birthday!  I felt such a kiss from God at that very moment, it was amazing!  And that’s just how it is when we walk with Him.  His very touch is so intimate and personal.  Why would anyone want to live life without that touch?

If you don’t have that personal relationship with God and want to know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, please say this prayer:  Lord Jesus, I would like to know you like this.  I am missing you and your touch in my life and really want it in my life.  I know I am a sinner and ask that you forgive me for cutting you out of my life.  I ask that you come and be the Lord of my life.  I thank you that your blood provides my atonement for my sin that kept me from life with the Father of all creation.  Please come into my heart.  Be my Lord and restore my relationship with the Father.  Lead me by your precious Holy Spirit and I will follow you forever.

If you’ve said that prayer in your heart and confessed it with your mouth, welcome to the family of Heaven.  Find a Bible preaching and Bible teaching church and attend that church.  There is no such thing as a perfect church but you can find one for you with the Lord’s leading.  Listen for His voice.  You may not attend the same church all of your walk.  Some do, some don’t.  Churches have phases of growth and sometimes things happen and the Lord will lead you out.  Just be sure it’s the Lord leading you out.

Be blessed.
